University of Southeastern Philippines, Philippines
Abstract: The study examines the experiences of never-married elderly women. Case study method was used to gather the responses of the respondents, who were chosen through purposive sampling method. A total of ten never-married elderly women aged 60 and above were interviewed. Results showed that the respondents experienced various changes in their functioning, both physiological and psychological, in their late adulthood stage. They experienced positive and negative consequences of aging. However, they were able to cope with the negative consequences through optimism. Future studies should look into the economic implications so as to plan an effective retirement program for never-married elderly women.
